Free Response Jacob Beland:
Jane believes that she is not worthy to be loved by Rochester because she does not have the beauty and talent like Miss Ingram possesses. She convinces herself of this because she can not possibly believe that a person like herself who is not pretty and does not possess many lively talents can be loved by a man such as Rochester that has such high standards in life. I think that Rochester trully loves Jane for a person that he can connect to and relate to on a very deep level and has not been able to have this connection with other people for a long time. When Jane learns of Miss Ingram, she cannot help but feel jealous of her. Jane yearns for beauty and talent that people admire and marvel at
ALANA: I believe that Jane is indeed jealous of the beauty of Miss Ingram, however Jane is aware that beauty is the only asset that Miss Ingram possesed Jane said,"... she was not genuine: she had a fine person, many brilliant attainments; but her mind was poor, her heart barren by nature..."(187) Jane knows that she herself can charm, and entertain Mr. Rochester. Yes, Jane wishes that she had the beauty of Miss Ingram, but she is too down-to-earth to be anything more than envious. Mr. Rochester, too, is not the sort of man to be blinded by beauty without substance, on the other hand he is a business man, and as such would be aware when a 'deal' could be beneficial to his ventures, in other words; if he felt that marriage to Miss Ingram was an undertaking that could yeild benefits to his own station then there is every chance that he would marry her, but Mr.Rochester could not love her, could not feel for Miss Ingram the feelings he has for Jane.
ReplyDeleteImani: Jane needs to become more secure about herself. She needs to feel and be confident so then mr rochester would see it because if she believes she is beautiful he will beileve it.
